Blenheim
In many ways we had an excellent trip to Blenheim. We got off to a great start with Orlando who lead the field on day one in the CCI*** on a super dressage score of 39 and was lying second at the end of both days of dressage. Away Cruising also did a lovely and fault free test, scoring 47 and was lying in the top 20.
Sunshine on the dressage days turned to torrential rain over night before the cross country and throughout the day of competition. It’s hard to tell whether Orlando was affected by having only one eye in the poor visibility but he set out in a very cautious manner. He didn’t make any mistakes but was jumping higher and higher so I felt it was only fair on him to pull him up and save him for a better day.
Away Cruising ate up the course and felt very confident. Both horses jumped the directly through the difficult corners coming out of the main water, which only a small handful managed all day. He jumped well on the last day, having two show jumps down but putting in a good performance. He is only a nine year old and is showing good promise and I am sure will move up to four star confidently.
