The Rider: About Harry

By Jake Olver - Media Manager, Pendragon Productions

Harry Meade is one of Britain’s leading event riders. Based in the quiet village of West Littleton, on the Wiltshire/South Gloucestershire border, he has built up a good string of horses from novice to advanced level and is supported by an enthusiastic team of owners.

As a measure of the owners' loyalty, in 2005 Carolyn and Richard Lissack (who own Harry's top horse Midnight Dazzler) nominated Harry for the Event Horse Owners Association (EHOA) prize for the rider that has given their owners the most pleasure within the sport.

A former Junior British team member, Harry has made a major impact at senior level since 2002. In 2006 and 2007 he was fourth in the Senior National Championships at Gatcombe and his consistent successes at four-star level (the highest level) have established him as a recognised face in the top echelon of international competition.

A natural horseman, Harry has also proved himself a relentless competitor. Riding in his own deceptively quiet style, he and Midnight Dazzler were the fastest combination across country at both Badminton and Burghley in 2006. He has also won the best under 25 award at Burghley three years in a row, setting a new record.

Among his admirers is world renowned event rider Lucinda Green, who wrote in The Daily Telegraph in September 2006: At Badminton two cross-country rounds were in a league of their own: the eventual winner, Andrew Hoy, aged 40 and acknowledged as one of the world’s few scholars of the sport, and 22-year-old Harry Meade.
